Welcome to the Akeman Benefice

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to the Akeman Benefice. We are seven Church of England churches serving a group of villages in the Cherwell District of Oxfordshire.

“To the seven churches….grace to you and peace from him who is, and who was, and who is to come.”  (Revelation 1.4)

The Akeman Benefice - About Us

We believe the Church is called to be an inclusive community of kindness and generosity – contemplative, compassionate, and courageous.

Our logo depicts the seven churches of the benefice, traversed by the M40 and A34 in the form of a cross. Christ bears us up on our journey through life. On the left the River Cherwell reminds us of the living water Christ offers to all who seek him.

Every week there is a range of services and events held across our benefice. As well as our regular church services we run various events including prayer groups, coffee mornings, and Rise & Shine for children of all ages. There are also many one-off events that may be of interest to you and your family. Below is a list of this week’s services, activities and events in our benefice.

Seven Parishes

Formed in 1996, the benefice consists of seven villages situated between Oxford and Bicester. Though each village parish has its own historic church, we work together to try to widen the opportunities for people in our communities to hear the message of Jesus Christ. You are assured of a warm welcome at any of our services.

Baptisms

We are delighted that you are thinking about having your child, or yourself, baptised (you can also say christened). The Akeman Benefice welcomes all who wish to be baptised into the Church of England, regardless of age. There is no fee, although a collection is taken at the end of the service.

Weddings

Marrying in church is personal, meaningful and spiritual, just as you want it to be. Churches are special and unique places to get married in – the prayers, promises, and the whole service of celebration become part of your marriage, on the day itself and beyond.

Funerals

The Akeman Benefice is here to help you through one of life’s most difficult times. A Church of England funeral is available to everyone in the parish, giving support before, during, and after the service, for as long as it is needed.
