Holiday Club

Guardians of Ancora was our 7th Akeman Holiday Club and was as inspiring as ever. The Kirtlington village hall became a wild country of Dark Dungeons, Wild Woods, Toppling Towers, Crumbling Castles and Secret Swamps, with the city of Ancora and its Spire of Light. Each day the Elder Guardians, supported by the junior team, welcomed the 5 – 10 year-old Guardians into their dens, and each day we all went on a treasure hunt for the missing story treasures. These turned out to be strange objects like a net, a smelly Roman sandal, and some fish, each one leading to a Bible story telling us about Jesus. Every day of Guardians of Ancora we talked together, we sang, we laughed at the amazing challenges and the silly antics of Dot and Dash, (two hopeless would-be guardians), we told jokes, we thought, created, prayed, played and ate together. And then, at our grand finale, we had a visit by the prize-winning author Julia Golding, who demonstrated to us about how time travel helps to create stories, and revealed that her favourite of Jesus’ stories is the Lost Coin. And then it was goodbye to Ancora. But we won’t leave behind the songs and the memory verse: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind, and love your neighbour as yourself”, nor the memory of the fun we had.

Please note that there will not be a Holiday Club in 2017
