About Us

Welcome to the Akeman Benefice website.

Formed in 1996, the benefice consists of seven villages situated between Oxford and Bicester. Though each village parish has its own historic church, we work together to try to widen the opportunities for people in our communities to hear the message of Jesus Christ.

You are assured of a warm welcome at any of our services. Just click on the tab of any of the individual parishes or on the Benefice Services tab to find out more. The Ministry Team welcome you to our Benefice. We look forward to meeting you.

Most of our parishes have a service (sometimes two) on most Sundays. The exception is the fourth Sunday of the month when we meet together as one worshipping body in each church in turn through the year. We try to keep a balance between child-friendly, all-age services and quieter celebrations of Holy Communion. Evensong takes place once a month in Kirtlington, and occasionally in other churches.

From autumn through to spring we also hold a monthly Messy Church at 4pm on the fourth Sunday in Kirtlington church. This is designed for those of any age who find a full church service more than they can manage. It includes creative activities (crafts, games) organised on a theme, a short time of celebration (including a Bible story, songs and prayers) and a simple meal.

Our popular children’s workshops are aimed at 5-11 year olds and involve a wide range of activities, drama, singing, sports and Bible stories.

There are several mid-week fellowship groups meeting in the villages for Bible study, prayer and mutual support.
